The North East Cheshire Drag Hunt

I just found this page on UK hunting etiquette which makes interesting reading for someone who knows nothing about the sport. The rules of etiquette for the North East Cheshire Drag Hunt give a really good insight into the day’s events. Click here to read it.

Hunting is all about jumping and galloping out in the open air and countryside. It has to be very well organised because of dangerous obstacles and the need for permission from farmers and other landowners. Riders used to chase a fox – to give the farmer some justification for allowing large groups of horses to churn up their land.

Hunts also organise their own brand of amateur horse racing over jumps called “point-to-point“. Some UK race horses begin their careers in these events.
